Sun Reduces RMDS Latency with Containers

Sun Microsystems is working with Thomson Reuters to allow the Reuters Market Data System (RMDS) to run in a virtualised environment, leveraging Sun’s Solaris Containers technology. Unlike other virtualisation approaches, such as hypervisors, Solaris Containers do not impact performance, and indeed can improve it compared to running RMDS on non-virtualised servers, Sun says, leading to reduced latency.

RMDS components, such as Source Distributors, P2PS and RTIC servers can be deployed in Containers within an appropriately powerful physical server, and run more efficiently than when those components are deployed across a number of entry-level servers, not least as network communications are eliminated.
