James is a High Performance Messaging consultant at informatica.  He has been working in financial services IT in London for the last 7 years and working in IT generally for 20 across a broad range of industries.  His main area of expertise is IT infrastructure, particularly capital markets IT (as opposed to development).  

Kai Behning
Senior Financial Services Consultant
Equinix

Kai Behning is Senior Financial Services Consultant at Equinix (Germany) GmbH. His main focus is the analysis of trading systems, creating both the technical concepts for trading installations as well as the implementation.

His expertise spans latency sensitive requirements of high-frequency trading (HFT) members to cost effective and reliable solutions for low-frequency trading (LFT) members. As a seasoned Financial Services professional, Kai has worked with exchanges for more than 20 years. During his career, he has worked closely with more than 100 banks, brokers and clearing companies all over Europe and the USA.

In addition to working closely with the exchange members, Kai has also participated in several exchange projects; including the migration of the Vienna Stock Exchange to Xetra and building up the technical platform for the Eurex/CBOT alliance in Chicago.

Prior to joining Equinix, as Senior Engineer for Exchange Connectivity for a major German bank, he was responsible for the connectivity to all major European exchanges, clearing services and MTFs. Furthermore he focused on the performance optimization of the bank’s ultra-low-latency trading infrastructure.

Kai is also speaker for IT security at the Technical University Vienna.

Mohammad Darwish

A 20-year veteran of business and technology innovation, Mohammad Darwish is the Founder and CEO leading AdvancedIO Systems, a company providing programmable Ethernet cards built for real-time performance in the financial and defense markets. In 2004, he launched AdvancedIO focused on leveraging 10GE and FPGA technologies, a prescient innovation that beat the general market by five years.

Mohammad excels in design and innovation in the field of real-time systems with focus on FPGA technologies. He has developed real-time software defined radio products at Spectrum Signal Processing and digital image quality processors at Ward Labs. He took his real-time expertise into the classroom teaching senior classes at the University of British Columbia and he has been published in prestigious conferences on VLSI and parallel systems.

Mohammad followed his BSc degree in Computer Engineering with a MASc degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia, specializing in high-speed digital design.

Mark Edwards

As the head of R&D for TS-Associates Application Tap product, Mark has over 20 years experience in designing and producing low-level software. With specialities in network and storage stacks where metrics are key to understanding optimisation Mark has worked in the CTO Offices of both FTP Software and Adaptec. As an active participant in standards bodies such as The IETF and T.10/11 Mark has helped produce successful standards from Windows Sockets to iSCSI.

Shawn Edwards
CTO

As chief of technology officer, Shawn Edwards overseas the development and implementation of Bloomberg's global technology strategy, including functional enhancements to the company's core business, the Bloomberg Professional service.

Since he joined Bloomberg in 2003, Shawn spearheaded development of Bloomberg's leading market data products, including its Desktop and Server API market data distribution products. He also furthered the company's ongoing commitment to market transparency by leading Bloomberg's Open Market Data Initiative (OMDI), which brought Bloomberg's open symbology (BSYM) catalog and market data interface into the public domain.

By 2008, Shawn accelerated from software engineer to co-head of Bloomberg's research and development group. He was instrumental to streamlining product development process, bolstering the Bloomberg network's technical infrastructure and created a user-experience design team that influences product development company-wide.

Prior to joining Bloomberg, Shawn worked for Bear Stearns & Co where he was a managing director in the company's fixed income trading group. He has also held positions at Mentor Graphics and IBM.

Shawn received a bachelors of science and a masters degree from the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University.

Pete Harris

Pete Harris

Pete Harris is the Conference Chair for the Low-Latency Summits, and is Publisher and Editor of Low-Latency.com and BigDataForFinance.com - online communities led by A-Team Group. He also serves as President, Americas for the company, which is focuses on the deployment of information technologies in the global financial markets.

Before joining A-Team, Pete worked as an independent consultant, advising technology innovators on how to best position their products and services to serve Wall Street and the financial markets. During that time, he created the ‘on Wall Street’ event series, the forerunner of the current Low-Latency Summit events.

Prior to working as a technology consultant, Pete held a number of editorial, publishing and management positions – including Editor-in-Chief and President – at Waters Information Services (now Incisive Media). There, he spearheaded the company’s move into events and online services.

Earlier in his career, Pete specialised in software development. In the mid 1980s, he was a project manager and software architect, working in the Advanced Systems Group of the London Stock Exchange. At the LSE, Pete built one of the world’s first digital market data distribution systems, dubbed Radix. He has also held a variety of software management and development roles at Intercom Data Systems (now Fidessa), Knight-Ridder Unicom (since merged into Reuters) and the Financial Times.

He resides in Austin, Texas.

Nikolaj Hermann

Nikolaj Hermann is co-founder and CTO at Fiberblaze. He has been in charge of the development of the complete product portfolio at Fiberblaze, including all 10 GigE FPGA based Network Interface Cards. The network interface cards are now being used as the state-of-the-art choice at many High Frequency Trading sites worldwide.

Before Nikolaj founded Fiberblaze in 2008, he worked in the electronics and telecommunication industry for more than 10 years and holds a degree in physics.

Vasil Kajcovski

Vasil Kajcovski is Director of TIBCO’s Messaging Business in EMEA. With over 20 years of involvement in the IT industry and more than 15 years of TIBCO experience, combined with extensive knowledge of Capital Markets industry, Vasil has been closely involved in delivering TIBCO’s value proposition for complex trading architectures and solutions for the major financial services firms.

Rony Kay

Dr. Kay combines unique expertise in high performance HW & SW systems with 20 years of experience in optimization and algorithms. Dr. Kay founded cPacket Networks and he is the architect of its hardware and software technology. Before founding cPacket Dr. Kay worked for Intel's Enterprise Platform Group, where he managed engineering teams working on high-end server platforms. Previously, he was an IBM research fellow and a project manager of cutting edge software and hardware development. He brought several products from inception, through conceptual design and development to execution and successful customer deployments. Prior to IBM Dr. Kay was the R&D manager of a company developing innovative CAD/CAM systems to compile 3D data sets and process solid models by CNC machines. Earlier he held positions in operations management, process optimization, and IT consulting.

Dr. Kay has published a dozen technical papers and been issued ten patents. He earned his Ph.D in Computer & Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Frederic Ponzo

Prior to founding GreySpark Partners, Ponzo joined the international consultancy NET2S in 1998 as a consultant in the firm’s Paris office. He moved to London in early 2000 to open the firm’s UK office and took on a wide range of consulting and operational roles. Ponzo became managing director of the firm in 2004 and assumed overall responsibility of NET2S UK business. Over the past 13 years, Ponzo personally advised over 50 financial institutions, including 19 of the top 20 investment banks, building an unparalleled insight in the industry.

David Quarrell

David Quarrell, the senior solutions architect and technology consultant for Agilysys OnX Enterprise Solutions in the U.K., has 20 years in IT, with 15 spent servicing the financial industry. He has played a major role in advancing the efficiency of capital markets via the automation of settlement, clearing and electronic exchanges. A committed Welsh rugby fan, David also enjoys sailing and hill walking in Scotland in his free time.

Paul Rushton
Managing Director

Paul Rushton is Managing Director at Korusys, leading experts in packet based synchronization techniques and products and a trusted provider of FPGA Design Services. Part of the original IEEE1588 working group who developed the PTP synchronization protocol, Korusys is now focussed on developing and implementing FPGA and synchronization solutions specifically for high frequency trading technologies.

Prior to founding Korusys, Paul had over twenty years’ experience leading the development of Systems for the telecommunications and networking markets, and lead the team that developed the first fully integrated single chip PTP solution on the market.

Paul Holds a BEng and Msc in Electronic Engineering from Manchester University and an MBA from Southampton University.

Raymond Russell

Raymond is a founder of Corvil and co-inventor of its core technology. Since 2000, Raymond has played an instrumental role in building a strong company and product suite around the core Corvil technology, covering many areas such as network science, product management, technical sales, and field engineering.

As Chief Technology Officer, Raymond is focused on driving continued advancement and fulfilment of Corvil’s innovations with a focus on applications and infrastructure in capital markets. Recently, Raymond has led intensive investigations into latency issues impacting proprietary trading firm applications and utilised this experience to improve Corvil’s product offering.

Dan Solak

Dan is the Global Head of Elektron Data for the Trading business at Thomson Reuters. In his role, he is responsible for the solutions which provide access to real-time data via Elektron, the firm’s high performance data and trading infrastructure. In his most recent roles, Dan served as Global Head of Business Development for the Enterprise Platform for Real Time before briefly heading up business development for Real-Time Data and the Enterprise Platform. He has held several other senior positions at Thomson Reuters including head of Information Management Systems for EMEA.

Prior to joining Thomson Reuters, he was a Senior Market Data Officer at HSBC. Dan is currently pursuing a business degree from Said Business School at the University of Oxford.

James Spooner

James Spooner is responsible for project delivery with Maxeler's acceleration customers. Working predominantly in Oil & Gas and Finance, James and his team deliver solutions in seismic modelling, data processing, fixed-income analytics and trading platforms.  Before Maxeler, James was a technologist at Endace, a network measurement company.  He worked on technical product development and definition for 10Gbit+ networks and delivered solutions to customers across the US, Europe and Asia.  James holds an honours degree in computing from The University of Waikato in New Zealand.

Benjamin Stephens

Ben Stephens is responsible for originating new business for Nomura’s industry leading NXT product suite providing high frequency trading clients with ultra-low latency market connectivity, co-location, market data and quantitative prime brokerage services.

Prior to joining Nomura’s electronic trading and prime brokerage origination team in 2010, Ben worked for Bank of America Merrill Lynch in a similar position and has an MBA from London Business School.

Henry Young

Henry Young is founder and CEO of TS-Associates, a firm that specialises in monitoring and analysis of networks, financial middleware products and electronic trading systems. With the TipOff network monitoring appliance and the Application Tap software instrumentation card, TS-Associates provides a complete range of precision instrumentation solutions capable of providing nanometric transparency into the latency dynamics of trading systems.

Prior to setting up TS-Associates in 1999, Henry worked as an independent consultant with investment banks and exchanges across Europe, USA and more recently Asia, specialising in high performance front office and electronic trading technologies.

Henry holds an MSc in Computing from Imperial College and a BSc in Physics & Electronics from Edinburgh University.
